George and Sandra Rucker

George and Sandra Rucker are fighting for the rights of United States Military Veterans.

Sandra Rucker (born February 2, 1953 in Atlanta, Georgia) a mother of one son and grandmother of two boys. I am a cancer survivor. I am CEO/Founder of Sandra Rucker’s Angels, Inc., a 501-©(3), Non Profit Corporation, benefiting Military Veterans/Families, Director/Former OFFE, State of Kansas, National Media Manager/OFFE/VFVC, and Entrepreneur, owned (2) restaurants, Clothier/Boutique Chez-Vous, Inc., retired from General Motors, Atlanta, Georgia.

I am a proud daughter of Sarah Hellen and Alfred Gonzales, Sr.  My father was a CPL combat Korean Veteran who was a truck driver in MO section, US Army, December 1952-54.

I am a proud 2nd cousin of Sherian Cadoria, the first black female General in the United States Army and the highest-ranking female at the time of her retirement in 1990 with the rank of Brigadier General.

I am the very proud wife of 2nd Class Petty Officer, George W. Rucker, Jr., who is a Disabled-Service Connected, Total & Permanent 100% Vietnam Veteran, who served aboard the Enterprise aka “The Big.”  George did six tours to Vietnam and was aboard the Enterprise in 1969 when she blew up.

I almost lost my husband at the hands of a Topeka VA ER doctor who diagnosed my husband as having the Flu with no complaint of a fever, sniffles or runny nose.  Three weeks after his diagnosis, on January 25, 2007, the same ER – a different doctor, discovered that it was not the Flu, but Congestive Heart Failure! Clots were rapidly forming in all of his vital organs and he was rushed to Stormont-Vail hospital because the VA said they did not have the Medical Staff to treat his life-threatening condition.

On January 26, 2007, the VA hospital was sending an ambulance to pick him up to bring back to the VA  (remember, they just told me on January 25th that they did not have the medical staff to treat his life-threatening condition).  I had to learn to advocate very quickly in order to fight against the VA to keep him at Stormont-Vail Hospital where he was receiving treatment.  The VA was not concerned about  leaving him at Stormont until his brain surgeon and/or heart surgeon gave the ok to move him back to the VA.  George hovered between ICU and Critical ICU for 32 days. This traumatizing experience is what led me to advocate for veterans and form Sandra Rucker’s Angels, Inc.

Here some things this organization has done to help VETS:

  • Pay for hotel accommodations & meals for up to seven days if no bed is available to get into the VA’s behavioral health clinic (this is for homeless Veterans with no funds)
  • Help homeless Veterans with move in expenses, such as getting utilities turned on, groceries.
  • Make court appearances with Vets who request me as their advocate and morale support.
  • As media manager request TV interviews when Veteran issues need to get out to the public.
  • Provide transportation for emergency situations to and from airport, bus stations, train stations. Also provide transportation to outside of VA appointments with in the city limits.
  • Provide new clothing when VA’s clothing bank does not have sizes needed, they do not have a large selection of larger size clothing for over XL men/women sizes
  • Provide dental care for Veterans who do not have VA dental coverage. In process of getting team of doctors and attorneys to represent disabled Vets at no charge. Will give my Fed tax exempt # being a 501(c)(3).
  • Write letters to Washington DC on behalf of Veterans who request our services with signed release from the VA.
